Welcome to Traditional Turkey and Villa Cennet Bahcesi
Your hosts Ramazan and Debbie Kivrak
We came to Üzümlü Kalkan from Bolu in 2011. Ramazan was chief accountant at a large poultry company and we had been married for one year before we decided to move. Debbie had come from living in Cambridgeshire in the UK where she was a trained cook and mental health recovery worker, so quite diverse. We had seen the land with a lovely old cottage on it and thought we could extend and renovate it. Unfortunately it was not structurally sound and so was demolished. It all happened so quickly. An architect was employed and plans were drawn up . . . firstly a six bedroom house which turned into a nine bedroom property. A builder and workers were employed and it has taken seventeen months to get to where we are today. Our dream was to have a Bed and Breakfast, as we are situated right on the Lycian way and walkers frequent the road that runs in front of the house. As time has passed we really didn't know what would be best for us, a Bed and Breakfast or renting the whole property as a villa. So we are doing both! Along with this we have started to hold Sunday lunches and meals for special occasions. This was to start help advertise ourselves and bring in some business. What attracted us to the area? It was its situation, with spectacular views over to Patara and the fact it was right on the Lycian way. Ramazan had been brought up in a village and was familiar with the way of life. We loved it because you have the best of both worlds, peace and quiet in the countryside and yet only a short drive down to the holiday resort of Kalkan, where we first met. We both think it is a great place for a holiday because it is a quiet area in a beautiful setting, with gardens and friendly people, taking in the Turkish way of life. It has much to offer in the way of historical sites to visit, is a great walking area and has a variety of activities such as visiting Saklikent Gorge, boat trips, horse riding and jeep safaris to name but a few, all of which can be organised for you, and guests picked up locally.
